Salt Lake City, Utah — From May 4 - 8, more than 8,000 scientists from around the world will gather at the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology’s (ARVO) 2025 Annual Meeting in Salt Lake City, Utah, to share the latest discoveries in eye and vision research. Many studies being presented focus on the retina, the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye that captures the images people see and sends signals to the brain so that people can see and understand the world around them. Understanding the retina and how it works is crucial for maintaining good vision.
The Annual Meeting presentations will showcase many advancements, including the groundbreaking first detailed map of the human foveal retina, which is key to sharp and clear vision and could unlock new insights into how we see. This new research sheds light on why some diabetic patients experience worsening symptoms with treatment, offering hope for improving treatments for diabetic retinopathy.
Another study highlights the impact of a mother’s diet during pregnancy on her child’s retinal health, emphasizing the significant role of maternal nutrition in the early development and health of the retina.
These are a few examples of the exciting research being presented at ARVO 2025, underscoring the importance of continued research in tackling eye issues and developing treatments to protect and improve sight for all.
